BLACK RIVER, St. Elizabeth:

AN APPROXIMATE half acre of fully-grown ganja was destroyed at Pedro Cross in St. Elizabeth, Friday morning.

In an operation, which lasted from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., officers of the Area Three Narcotics Squad and the St. Elizabeth Police Division went to the community, where the fully-grown plants were destroyed.

One hundred and thirty pounds of dried ganja were also destroyed and two men arrested and charged with possession and use of ganja.

MEN TO APPEAR BEFORE COURT

The two men are Damion Clarke, 21, and John Blake, 53, for possession of and use of the herb. The police said they saw the men along the road smoking ganja cigars. They said Blake's house was also searched and a black plastic bag containing about one pound of dried ganja found in his bedroom. Both men are booked to appear in the Black River Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Another 30 pounds of dried ganja that was found in a hut was also burnt by the lawmen.

The team also went to the district of Vineyard where two men were seen walking along the road, each with a bundle of green ganja on their heads. The men ran on the approach of the police, who retrieved the weed and burnt it. The area was searched and about 100 pounds of dried ganja was taken from two farm huts and burnt by
