Wide-ranging new dance works by NDTC

THE MUCH acclaimed National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) will unveil a number of new dance works this coming weekend starting on Friday, July 25. Once again audiences will be treated to a diverse and wide-ranging programme of dances drawing on an equally wide-range of music compositions (local and foreign) as well as scenarios dealing with a variety of themes.

Evocative pieces have been created by Clive Thompson catching the spirit of Jamaican traditional music specially arranged by Paulette Bellamy and by artistic director Rex Nettleford whose "Birdsong" explores the aviary universe to South African music. But it is Lester Horton's "The Beloved" which offers the most drama in a powerful duet involving a humourless husband and a servile wife who finally succumbs to domestic violence. Arlene Richards' "Renewal of The Spirit" and Christopher Walker's "Fragile" are clearly 'spiritual' pieces which share with Thompson's duo inspired by the Biblical characters of Jesus and Lazarus add more of the spiritual dimension which the NDTC repertoire has built up over the years, challenged in part by its annual Easter Morning of Movement and Music exercise.

OFFERINGS

The singers will also introduce new offerings as in songs by Lord Flea and ringplay tunes arranged by Marjorie Whylie the NDTC's multi-talented Musical Director and noted musicologist. The Season will run from July 25 to August 24.

Bookings are at the Little Theatre.
