Councillor, supervisor on wounding charge
published: Tuesday | July 22, 2003

By Livingston Allen, Gleaner Writer

OLD HARBOUR,

St. Catherine:

PEOPLE'S NATIONAL Party (PNP) Councillor for the Brown's Hall Division, John Wilson, and Harold Leslie, a supervisor at the National Water Commission's (NWC) Marlie Mount office, were both slapped with wounding charges when they appeared in the Old Harbour Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Wilson was charged with two counts of assault at common-law and one count of unlawful wounding while Leslie was charged with one count of unlawful wounding, arising from the same incident at the Marlie Mount sub-station on June 9, 2003.

REQUEST DENIED

It is alleged that Councillor Wilson went to the NWC office in Marlie Mount to do business, and while he was there, he requested to use the telephone but his request was denied.

Wilson and Leslie then became engaged in a tussle with Leslie receiving a blow to the back of his head while Wilson receiving one in the eye.

A security guard who had come to Leslie's assistance was hit with stone thrown by Wilson.

It further alleged that both Wilson and the security guard pulled their guns but neither of the firearms was discharged.

The matter was subsequently reported to the Old Harbour police who investigated. The files were submitted to the Clerk of the Court, who ruled that both men were to be charged. Both men were released on $50,000 bail each and are booked to return to court on Thursday, September 4 to answer to the charges.
