By Stephanie Elliott, Gleaner WriterMAY PEN, Clarendon:
THE ATTORNEY-General and the lawyer representing the parents of a missing baby of Clarendon couple, Pansy Campbell and Roy McLean, are to meet again on July 31, in an effort to broker a settlement for the couple.
Talks broke down at the initial meeting last Friday after the parents and their attorney, Dwight Reece, refused to accept the first offer from the Attorney-General's office, which is representing the Ministry of Health.
Mr. Reece told The Gleaner that the meeting broke down after he indicated that the amount being set as compensation for the parents was inadequate.
The Health Ministry, last week, indicated that it was willing to arrive at a settlement with the couple, after a second round of DNA tests on a child originally incorrectly identified as the couple's and five other infants failed to locate the missing infant.
In the meantime, Miss Campbell and Mr. McLean are getting more distressed and state that no amount of money can ever compensate them for the trauma that the loss of their child has caused them. According to Miss Campbell, "Dem still a sey mi baby dead and still dem caan show mi di body. Well mi caan sey him dead. So as long as dem caan show mi a body and prove sey a fi mi, my little girl nuh dead."
