Congestion on the road
published: Sunday | July 6, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

LET ME use this opportunity to congratulate the National Works Agency on the efforts being made to broaden our roadways and ease congestion on our major thoroughfares. However, the effort made on the Washington Boulevard has made your work of little or no effect.

Look at this scenario, on entering the Washington Blvd, you have TWO lanes going east, this gets better as you cross the Duhaney Park intersection THREE broad lanes, then it gets even better as it approach Molynes Road, you get FOUR lanes at the stop light, but guess what?

Only ONE LANE is allowed to turn from the Boulevard to the two lanes on Molynes Road, because of this there is a massive build-up of traffic from the overhead bridge leading up to the stoplight, as the two lanes of traffic try to merge into one (buses and all) as no one wants to be ticketed by the police.

When I asked a police officer standing at the intersection why two lanes are not allowed to turn right as there are two lane to allow this, he said "the arrow in the road (Washington Blvd.) wasn't pointing right" so no right turn is allowed. If all is required is to paint an arrow, NWA please do so to ease the congestion.

NWA please address this matter urgently.

I am, etc.,
