Remove levy from reading material
published: Sunday | July 6, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN YOUR Gleaner of 1st July 'The Letter of The Day' commented on the levy recently imposed on reading material by the Government. Mr M. George Gillings stated that this levy was immoral and that our leaders have no sense of vision to lead this country forward.

I have collected the signatures of over 40 people, doctors, nurses, administrative staff, at the place where I work, Kingston Public Hospital, who wish to support the ideas expressed in this letter. We all wish to congratulate Mr. Gillings particularly since some who support his ideas were afraid to sign because they thought it would affect their job.

The signatures are forwarded to you under different cover and hopefully will stimulate others to join in a campaign to remove this rather dumb and unimaginative excrescence on the face of the administration. Frankly the removal of this levy, even now should improve their image.

I am, etc.,

DENNIS STEPHENS
