AUGUST TOWN yesterday claimed the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association's (KSAFA) Syd Bartlett trophy after beating Maxfield Park 1-0 for a 3-1 aggregate win.
The combination which gave August Town the 2-1 win in midweek was again responsible for yesterday's victory. Kirk Williams, who like Mark Harris was a goalscorer then, provided the cross which was mishandled by goalkeeper Carl Campbell. Goal-poacher Harris followed up to score his second goal in two games in the 61st minute.
"Overall, we played fairly well though not as well as we would have liked," said Marlon Small, a member of the August Town coaching staff. He credited the victory to the defensive unit which was led by captain and coach Dwight Morgan, who directed things from his sweeping position.
Maxfield Park's Cedric Allen said August Town "were hungrier".
He added that the early dismissal of midfielder Wayne Richards affected his team's plan and performance.
"After losing a player in the first 25 minutes it opened up our midfield. We had to change up our formation using just one forward," said Allen.
Richards, who had just entered the field three minutes earlier was ejected "for foul and abusive language directed at a spectator".
The game itself was not of the highest quality but both finalists will next season play in the Major League.
