JTTA events
published: Friday | June 13, 2003

THE NEWLY-elected Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) administration has as announced events for the remaining of the 2003 calendar year.

The inaugural President's Cup, a new tournament on the calendar, and the Business House tournament will be played on Saturday, June 21, alongside each other.

These tournaments will also allow the new administration, which took over office last Friday, to test its preparations for the upcoming National Championships and Caribbean Championships.

Two events, men's singles and women's singles, will be contested and sponsorship has been committed for the tournament to be played annually.

In the Cup tournament players will not be categorised, according to vice president Peter Moo-Young, who thinks it is good for all players to play against the top players.

"While I believe age group and lower level tournaments serve their purpose, the best way to improve is to play against all levels," Moo-Young said.

Moo-Young, a national player, went on to say he hoped the juniors and B players and lower would accept the challenge and step up to the plate.

The schedule of events for both tournaments (President's Cup and Business House) will be announced soon.

Entries for the President's Cup can be picked up in the Corporate Area at Sabina Park, Rex Hall (UWI) and Pembroke Hall Club.

Meanwhile, players in the rural parishes can pick up entries from Michael Wilson in Clarendon, Bert Welsh in Manchester and Mark McKellop in St James.

Entry fees are $500 for adults and $250 for juniors and more information may be obtained by phoning vice president Moo-Young at 968-1299 or 381-3471.
