Patriarch, Reginald Franklin, dead at 83
published: Friday | June 13, 2003

THE PATRIARCH of the notable political Franklin family has died.

Reginald Franklin, the father of current Junior Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Delano Franklin, and John Franklin, former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for North West St. Catherine, passed away at age 83.

Mr. Franklin, who had been ailing for some time, died at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) on June 4. According to son, John, the senior Franklin ran a farm in St. Mary until the time of his death. This he did despite the successes achieved by children.

John Franklin's son, Andre Franklin, is the current chairman of the JLP's youth arm, Young Jamaica.

The funeral for Reginald Franklin will take place at Stella Maris Church, Shortwood Road, on Tuesday June 17 at 10:00 a.m. A second service will take place at the Gospel Chapel, Alleppo, St. Mary, at 2:00 p.m.
