ST. ANN'S BAY, St. Ann:
PRIME MINISTER P.J. Patterson has appealed to the people of St. Ann not to let down the party on June 19, like they did on October 16 last year, but to ensure that PNP candidates are victorious.
He said that, last year, when most of the country was heading in the direction of the PNP, St. Ann was heading in the direction of the JLP and he warned PNP supporters that they are the ones who will suffer most, if the JLP candidates take charge of the Parish Council.
TWO SEATS LOST
Prior to entering the election of last year, the PNP held three of the four constituencies in St. Ann, but went on to lose two of those seats to JLP candidates. Mr. Patterson, who was speaking at a PNP workers meeting, at the Marcus Garvey Technical High School, St. Ann's Bay, on Saturday, said he hoped the mistake made then will not be made again.
Using as an example, a recent statement by JLP Member of Parliament for North West St. Ann, Verna Parchment in relation to employment of JLP supporters on the site of Phase Two of the North Coast Highway, which runs through her constituency, Mr. Patterson said this was clear evidence of the intention of the JLP to victimise the PNP supporters.
Pointing to the importance of a PNP victory in St. Ann, the Prime Minister said a lot of development projects will be coming on stream soon in the parish with the opening of the North Coast Highway. And that he does not want to have to wrestle with any Mayor or Parish Councillor who do not want to see progress continues.
"So your future is in your hands", he declared. Mr. Patterson told the people of St. Ann that once again they have a river to cross and that he believes they are going to cross it with him. "And I am going to be watching, and I am going to be waiting and I am going to be listening.
"Do St. Ann, no let mi down again," he appealed. At the meeting Mr. Patterson presented seven women and nine men who will be the PNP's candidate in the 16 Parish Council divisions in St. Ann and gave them the charge to, "go forth and do their best."
