THE EDITOR, Sir:
I HAVE been waiting eagerly for my refund from the Jamaica Public Service Company Ltd (JPSCo). When I saw them publish pages and pages of names of persons whose accounts are no longer active, and alerting these persons that they should make a claim for their refund, I was tempted to feel that something was about to happen. Then I said to myself, if JPSCo really wanted to reimburse us our money, they would simply credit the account of their existing customers who are entitled to the refund.
If they can publish a list of those persons who no longer have an account with them, they can certainly credit the account of those persons who still have accounts with them. So why the delay?
My reasoning is that this is a big PR gimmick designed to make the public believe that they are doing something, without having to dig into their pockets and come up with any immediate cash since these persons are unlikely to make any immediate claim on the JPSCo. Most of them are probably not even in Jamaica now.
JPSCo continues to send out their bills to their customers who have to find cash to pay them while they continue to use this money to finance their operation. They should not be allowed to get away with this any longer. JPSCo should credit all the eligible existing customers now before they send out one more bill.
I am, etc.,
