Taylor in 13-man squad

JAMAICAN 18-YEAR-OLD fast bowler Jerome Taylor was given an opportunity to impress the West Indies selectors ahead of the Sri Lankan Test series when he was named in a 13-man squad from which the President's XI will be chosen to face the tourists in a three-day game.

Three other Jamaicans, Carlton Baugh Jnr., David Bernard Jnr., and Daren Powell, were also named in the squad which will play Sri Lanka from June 14 to 16 at the Arnos Vale field in St. Vincent.

Taylor, a St. Elizabeth Technical High School student, showed his great promise when he captured eight wickets and propelled Jamaica to a five-wicket win over Trinidad and Tobago in their sixth round Carib Beer match at the Queen's Park Oval this year.

In just his third match, man of the match Taylor claimed impressive figures of 8-59 off 20.5 overs.

Included in the Daren Ganga-led 13-man squad are seven players with Test experience, the captain (Ganga), who scored back-to-back centuries against Australia, Baugh Jnr., Bernard Jnr., Tino Best, Ryan Hinds, Powell and Devon Smith.

The squad: Daren Ganga (captain), Dwayne Bravo, Aniel Kanhai, Dave Mohammed (Trinidad and Tobago), Narsingh Deonarine (Guyana), Ryan Hinds, Jason Bennett, Tino Best (Barbados), Jerome Taylor, Carlton Baugh Jnr., David Bernard Jnr., Daren Powell (Jamaica), Devon Smith (Windward Islands).
