PORT MARIA, St. Mary:
FOR NEARLY 11 years, the St. Mary Parish Library has been operating without a bookmobile unit but the library's community outreach, especially to its deep rural clientele, should improve with the recent addition of a bookmobile.
Six bookmobiles were donated by the Japanese Government to the Jamaica Library Service; one of them was sent to the St. Mary Parish Library.
When the library was operating without a bookmobile, the books were transported in the library van which had limited space.
The dedication of the vehicle took place on May 15 at Claude Stuart Park, Port Maria by the chairman of the Highgate Branch Library Sub-Committee, Rev. Seymour Hutchinson. It was witnessed by Custos A.A. Pottinger, the Director General of the Library Services, Patricia Roberts and other personnel from the Library Service as well as teachers and students.
