JCB comes up short again
published: Monday | May 19, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

SOMETHING IS dreadfully wrong with the administration of cricket in this country. West Indies have just won the fourth Test vs Australia by posting a record breaking 418 runs in the fourth innings. The domino effect of that result was predictable. Ticket sales for both one-dayers skyrocketed. The WICBC and the JCB are smiling.

But what of the man in the street and the man who has no 'contacts' who wanted to see the match and couldn't because the one ticket outlet at Sabina Park could not accommodate the rush for tickets. When I went there last week there was a line leading up to the ticket office , but as usual there were those who felt they should 'bore', and of course there was mass chaos.

Why does the JCB allow this to happen? All that's needed is one police/soldier to monitor the line. Why was there only one ticket outlet for the match? How can the little man in MoBay or Morant Bay get tickets without travelling all the way to Kingston? We are a third world country and will forever be such with the kind of planning that goes on here. One should be able to order tickets on the NET using credit card. Outlets should be spread all over the land, accepting charge cards or cash. Once again the Jamaica Cricket Board has come up short. When are they going to learn?

I am, etc.,
