THE TWO-DAY final of the Grace-sponsored Colts Under-16 schoolboy cricket competition opens at Melbourne Oval today with St. Catherine High up against Eltham.
The two-day contest gets under way at 10:00 a.m. with each facing a maximum 95 overs.
In a practice match earlier in the season, St. Catherine scored 218 for nine, and Eltham replied with 70 for five. Today, however, St. Catherine will be without top batsman Rasheed Outar who is representing Jamaica at the West Indies Under 15 tournament.
Despite that, coach Standford Hudson believes they still have the players to win the title they missed out on in 2000. "We still have a very strong batting line-up," says Hudson yesterday, "and we have a very good bowling attack."
The batsmen include Rohan Franklyn, who boasts a topscore of 122 not out, and openers Stephen Spence and Ricardo Robinson.
Their top bowler is leg-spinner Kemar Dean.
Eltham, who defeated Kingston College by four wickets to reach the final, will be looking to top bowler Frederick Hermitt to lead their bid for the title.
Good support should come from Simeon Lewis and Herod March.
