ABOUT 195,000 students from recognised basic, infant, primary, all-age and secondary schools will continue to benefit from the Government's School Feeding Programme this year.
Just over $494 million towards the programme has been earmarked in the 2003/04 Estimates of Expenditure which was tabled last week in the House of Representatives.
The programme includes the provision of cooked lunches for students and the production and distribution of nutribun and milk/drink to the beneficiaries islandwide through Nutrition Products Limited.
In recognition of the importance of nutrition to education, the Government established the School Feeding Programme that provides at least one meal per day to students.
The objectives of the programme are to encourage regular school attendance and to provide nutritional support to the most vulnerable students attending public institutions.
