THE EDITOR: Sir
The local news in Jamaica is now primarily concerned with the behaviour of students. Everywhere you go, the words on everybody's lips are "what are we going to do about our children?" The truth is, we know what to do. These are more than enough Jamaican experts who can inform us. For those who ask what can we do, let me give this suggestion:
Every person, man, woman and child who is not severely mentally disabled works out the cost/benefit of their action before taking such action.
It is therefore incumbent on us teachers, leaders, experienced Jamaicans to articulate what is proper behaviour.
Identify and educate all as to what the punishment is for not following the rules.
Identify and educate all as to what the benefits are for following the rules
Making sure that when anybody, man, woman and child does good there is reward, or if they break the rules then punishment as stated before, is followed to the letter. There must be no "blys".
I am, etc.,
