State of anarchy
published: Tuesday | April 22, 2003

THE EDITOR: Sir

WHILE MOST of our attention is being paid to the war in Iraq, many parts of our own country (Jamaica) are quietly moving into a state of anarchy without much notice from the relevant authorities.

Half Way Tree is one such place. For quite some time now, this busy little community has become a very lawless area in our city and if the situation is not dealt with now, then the armed forces will find it very difficult to manage.

Marijuana (ganja) selling and smoking are done openly, vendors are taking over the sidewalks, there is open gambling, illegal taxi operators park anywhere they want, men urinate anywhere they please and J.U.T.C. buses are prevented from moving out of the bus bay when they are ready to do so, because of other bus drivers.

These are but some of the illegal activities that are encountered on a daily basis at Half Way Tree.

I am, etc.,

KEITH DAVIS
