Yearning for peace
published: Tuesday | April 22, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

In St. Matthew Chapter 5 V 9, Jesus said - "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God".

What better instruction do we require to desist from our evil ways? We as a people must now put aside our differing religious and political beliefs and form a coalition in order to improve our lives to leave a better legacy for our children.

The year for reckoning is on us, so, whatever may be our fate economically, we ought to face it boldly and work assiduously for the betterment of all mankind.

This is not the time for the tug-o-war game, it is the time for pulling together.

We need desperately to take on some positive actions, self esteem, self worth, love for our fellowmen and cast aside the divide and rule notion and aggression.

Crime and violence must be seen as a deterrent factor for any development. The government is cognisant of this fact and is applying all the strategies, including the removal of the hurdles to resume hanging in order to eradicate this malady.

Human rights must now give a mission statement how to prevent the killings.

I am, etc.,
