THE AREA One Narcotics police have made yet another cocaine haul in St. James. This time, 103 pounds of the contraband was seized at the Sangster International Airport.
Up to late yesterday evening, police sources told The Gleaner that no arrests had been made in connection with the find, but pointed out that investigations were intensifying. The officer, however, declined to give crucial details surrounding the incident, stating that it could prejudice their investigations.
"The circumstances are very peculiar at this time. We are not sure what the outcome is likely to be," the officer said.
Police reports say that at about 10 p.m. on Sunday, members of the Area One Narcotics Division and Customs personnel were carrying out routine checks at the airport, when 46 boxes containing several bottles were searched and the cocaine discovered.
The boxes were labelled 'Western Spice' and were scheduled to leave the island on Martin Air, destined for an address in Holland. Police say, however, that so far, their investigations have revealed that the company Western Spice may not exist.
On Friday, the Area One Narcotics police, along with their Kingston counterparts, swooped down on two houses in Lilliput, Coral Gardens, and Latium, St. James, and seized 100 pounds of cocaine; 328 pounds of marijuana; 3,835 pounds of hash oil; nine illegal firearms; 300 rounds of assorted ammunition and a bullet-proof vest.
This operation lasted for about 48 hours and resulted in the arrest of four persons from Latium district. They are Glenford Williams, otherwise called 'Joe'; Michael Gray, a labourer; Oneil Lewis, a shopkeeper and Cephianne Harvey, who is also a shopkeeper.
