By Nodley Wright, Staff ReporterTHE REGGAE Boyz will today seek to make it three wins on the bounce and their second successive win in the Caribbean round of the Gold Cup qualifiers in Zone A when they take on Martinique in the second game of a doubleheader at the National Stadium.
That game will be preceded by the 5:00 p.m. encounter between Haiti, who came from behind to defeat Martinique 2-1, and St. Lucia who were hammered 5-0 by the Jamaicans.
Despite the handsome victory over St. Lucia on Wednesday which national coach Carl Brown saw as a perfect start, he knows that today his team will again have to start from scratch at 7:00.
"I saw the Martinique team some time last year in the Cayman Islands and they looked a much better outfit than we saw out there (against Haiti), so I am expecting them to bring that form to the game," Brown said after his team's win.
"We are playing a team that is technically a much tougher side than the St. Lucian team and therefore we expect a much tougher game. I believe they have individuals on the team that can do well," added Brown who singled out captain Patrick Percin as one to watch.
For their part, Martinique know that nothing but a win will keep their dream of a place in the Gold Cup alive. "I am sure we will see another team with the same players but we will show something else," said Martinique assistant coach Alonzeau Henri.
He added: "With this loss we are not definitely out of the tournament. We think that we have a chance but if we are to have a chance it will be very difficult because we will have to beat Jamaica. It will be very difficult but not impossible."
The Martinique players will have to follow the lead of midfielder Percin who troubled the Haitians down that flank and even scored the opening goal in the game. Leftback Fabrice Reuperne looked also to have some quality and should be a good match for the very tough Gerald Neil.
Brown will keep the same team which ended the first half of Wednesday's game and will be hoping to have a similar start.
"We have seen a little momentum coming, we have back-to-back wins that always bring a lot of confidence to the players and it is good for them," he said.
