Residents view live feed of Council activities
published: Monday | March 17, 2003

MANDEVILLE, Manchester:

THE SIGNING of a contract, as well as activities at the monthly meeting of the Parish Council, were beamed live to residents of Manchester last Thursday for the first time in the history of the local representative body.

A $33 million contract signing between the Ministry of Local Government and M&M Limited to refurbish the Council building was broadcast live on Wilson's Cable Network in conjunction with PACE Television.

Minister of Local Government, Portia Simpson Miller, who signed on behalf of the Government, lauded the cable company for making it possible for residents of Mandeville to be able to see their elected officials at work from the comfort of their homes. Mayor Horace Williams, who also congratulated Wilson's Cable for their co-operation, told The Gleaner that the company, by carrying live council meetings, has contributed to the transparency of the Local Government process.
