MANDEVILLE, Manchester:
COUNCILLORS HAVE criticised both the National Water Commission (NWC) and the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo) for inadequately delivering water and electricity service in the parish.
At the monthly meeting of the Parish Council last Thursday, one councillor also blasted the NWC for digging up the roadways and not effecting repairs in a timely manner.
Councillor Devona Myers of the Grove Town Division demanded that the NWC do something as soon as possible to assist residents of Marlie Hill, south Manchester, who have been experiencing water problems for the past five years. The Councillor said she has been making representation on behalf of the residents long enough and was not prepared to listen to any further excuse from the NWC.
Mayor Horace Williams said he too was dissatisfied with the NWC's response to the problems being experienced by resident of Marlie Hill. According to the Mayor, pipes were in place on the main road leading to the district and the NWC has the responsibility to see that the residents received water. The JPSCo., which Councillors have been criticising since last year about its policy of collecting more than $2 million per month for street lighting although a significant number of them were not functioning, was again taken to task.
