THE EDITOR, Sir:
AFTER READING the churches' opposition to casino gambling in Jamaica, I was forced to submit this letter.
It is highly hypocritical of the Catholic church to condemn gambling, when they benefit tremendously from their "bingo nights." If the government can allow lotteries, and horse racing in Jamaica, then controlled casino gambling can do nothing but benefit the economy.
I suggest if you want the churches' blessing, promise them a percentage of the take, then you will see how quickly they agree.
Although casino gambling will bring millions of dollars of foreign exchange in the country, we need to clean up Montego Bay, they will come but they may not return if they are not comfortable with the surroundings.
Enough of this "henny penny" the sky is falling nonsense! Bring on the casinos.
I am etc.,
