Sexy Sutherland spurns rumours
published: Friday | March 7, 2003

By Chaos Freelance Writer

A SEXY and shimmering in silver and black leather Nadine Sutherland took time out between songs to clear up a few misconceptions last Saturday at Megajamz' 'Heineken Studio '98', which was held at the Liguanea Club, New Kingston.

Opening with Never Wanna Fall In Love, oooh waah/oooh waahs being sang over backing tracks courtesy of deejay Squeeze, she asked the crowd "How y'all doing? This is a new format for me," with reference to the tracks. The format was to prove a slight problem once or twice, with Squeeze kicking in before she was done rapping with the audience about the man who had given her a broken heart "...and a hit song, so him can gwaan 'bout him business," with the music for Babyface.

Then it was time for the misconceptions. "There were rumours for many years that I was a drug addict. It really hurt me. What really hurt was that it went international, but it started at home! Look pon mi! Mi look like a drug addict?" she asked and got a resounding 'No!' in reply. "Mi look good!" she declared, before telling of how spiritual she had become during "...the dark days of my depression." The gospel-tinged Jah Jah is My Light followed.

"Yuh know sey mi is a likkle 'hot gyal' at heart - ah joke," she said before asking the audience to help her out on her hit collaboration with Terror Fabulous, Action. She did a good job deejaying his part with aplomb, 'wining', 'bubbling' and throwing in the occasional 'butterfly' in keeping with the '70s and '80s theme of the night and to the pleasure of the crowd before bringing her stint to an end.
