UNDER THE existing wage claim, the Government's offer included a three per cent increase on salary with effect from April 2002 and a further three per cent from April 1, 2003 and April 1, 2004.

The teachers wanted:

All salaries to be increased by 30 per cent in the first year and a further 30 per cent in the second year.

Allowances paid to teachers in vocational agricultural areas to be increased from $24,300 per annum to $35,000 in year one and to $45,000 in year two.
Their request for duty-free concession on vehicles for permanently employed teachers with a minimum of 10 years service was not supported, as were calls for increased housing allowances.

They got:

Vocational duty allowance totalling $27,000 per annum with effect from April 1, 2002; $30,000 with effect from April 1, 2003 and a further $31,200 per annum with effect from April 1, 2004.

An increase of $10 million on the amount of the motor car revolving loan fund with effect from April 1, 2003.
