THE PHILIP Feanny-trained I'MSATISFIED was last night named 'Horse of the Year' at the 14th annual None-Such/Horse of the Year Dinner at the Jamaica Hilton Hotel, New Kingston.
I'MSATISFIED, who as a five-year-old in 2002 dominated the sprints winning six races from 10 starts, beat out his brilliant stable-companion, the 3-y-o filly SIMPLY MAGIC (winner of the Triple Crown) by two votes for the coveted award, as well as Red Stripe Superstakes and Harry Jackson Memorial Cup winner MENUDO, the defending champion, in one of the most anticipated contests since the "Horse of the Year' award was established in 1964.
A dark bay gelding by The Medic out of the Peacemaker mare Midnight Angel, I'MSATISFIED is owned by Joseph "Fuggie" Duany and bred by Clovis Metcalfe.
Among his major successes last year were the $1.5 million Red Stripe Caribbean Sprint on November 9, the None Such Sprint Trophy over 1200 metres on October 19, the Abe Issa Memorial Cup and Arthur Jones Cup over the same distance early in the season and, of course, his definitive performance in the $950,000 Lotto Gold Cup over 1400 metres on December 14 when winning for the second straight year under top weight of 58kg with leading all-time jockey Winston Griffiths aboard.
