Kiwanis Club of Black River donates to Children's Ward
published: Friday | February 7, 2003

BLACK RIVER, St Elizabeth:

THE KIWANIS Club of Black River donated a number of valuable items to the Children's Ward of the Black River Hospital during a ceremony at the facility, recently.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, president of the club, Sharon Dasman said that out of a recent visit to the Children's Ward, the decision was taken that the club should donate some well needed things to the department, such as sheets, pillow cases, curtains, clothes and diapers. She said that the club was also committed to assisting in other areas of the hospital that would receive attention, through other projects which will be carried out by Kiwanis during the current year.

"We are proud to be a part of the continuing development of this hospital, and I am sure that our donations today will go a far way in assisting the children who are admitted to the Children's Ward at the hospital. Our donations to this worthy cause cost us a little over $15,000," Miss Dasman said.

Speaking on behalf of the hospital, operations manager Alwayne Miller lauded the Kiwanis Club of Black River for their efforts in assisting the hospital, noting that the donation by the club will go a far way. He said that the hospital from time to time needed assistance, that was why their efforts were appreciated.

"It goes without saying that the Kiwanis Club of Black River has been doing a great job. They have been working with us in a very positive way and all their donations are greatly appreciated," Mr. Miller said.

Projects planned for the hospital by the club include major repairs to the female ward. The work will include re-tiling of some sections of the ward, as well as repairs to the bathroom and a treat for mentally ill patients.
