Man remanded for nephew's murder
published: Friday | February 7, 2003

RUDOLPH CLARKE, the uncle of 13-year-old Brandon Clarke, who was shot dead in St. Catherine last Saturday, was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

He is also to face the court again on February 19, 2003.

Mr. Clarke, who reportedly fled the scene after the shooting incident, was turned over to the police by relatives on Sunday and was later charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reports that Brandon and the 41-year-old Clarke were at CoCo Walk in Williams Field around 1:10 p.m. Saturday when an explosion was heard. Brandon was later found suffering from a gunshot wound to his neck and was taken to the Linstead Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Mr. Clarke, also called 'Tony', of a Williams Field district address in St. Catherine, told police yesterday that he had found the gun at work and was taking it out of a bag to show Brandon when it went off.

He also told police that he had thrown the gun into the Kingston Harbour, following the shooting.
