Mrs. Lopez, the second woman to head the PSOJ, replaces Oliver Clarke who did not seek re-election after serving one term.
The new PSOJ president has vowed to continue in the footsteps of the outgoing president who, she said, played a valuable role in the fight against crime and violence in the society.
In addition to trying to combat the current spate of crime, Mrs. Lopez plans to "address the need for economic growth through detailed planning with the Government, targeting those sectors that are most viable".
She intends to urge the Government to put a cap on the current fiscal deficit and to commit to set tasks. "I intend on providing the wider public with the time-frames within which the Government is expected to complete its proposed plans of action."
She added: "The biggest task is to get everyone in Jamaica to understand what is going on. We have to carry out discussions and make plans in a reasonable and logical manner. We all have a role to play in the achievement of economic growth."
Beverley Lopez, one of the most respected members of the business community, is a stakeholder and director of Catherine's Peak and Big City Brewing Company. She is also the chairperson of Dry Clean USA (Jamaica).
