Curfew continues until tomorrow
published: Sunday | January 12, 2003

A CURFEW was imposed on sections of Kingston from 5:00 a.m. yesterday and will run until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow.

According to the Constabulary Communications Network (CCN), the curfew will run northerly along Gem Road; southerly along Sunlight Street; Easterly along West Road; and Westerly along Maxfield Avenue.

During the hours of the curfew, no pedestrian or vehicular traffic will be allowed to enter or exit the area without the permission of the ground commander.

This is the latest in a series of curfews, which the security forces have slapped on various troubled communities in the Corporate Area and St. Catherine, since Prime Minister P.J. Patterson and National Security Minister Dr. Peter Phillips announced the Government's new crime plan last month.

TWO SHOT AND KILLED

TWO PERSONS were shot and killed and two illegal guns recovered in separate incidents over the weekend. According to the CCN, Lorane Henry, 17, otherwise called 'Baggio' of Grants Pen Avenue, was shot and killed by unknown assailants on Grants Pen Avenue, Kingston, at about 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Constant Spring Police are investigating.

Peter Cox, 27, a baker of Grants Pen Road, was also shot and killed by a gunman on Waltham Park Road at about 10:15 p.m. Friday night. Mr. Cox and a friend were reportedly standing at the roadside awaiting a taxi, when a man armed with a gun approached them and open fire hitting Cox all over his body. The Half-Way Tree police are investigating.

Meanwhile, a homemade shotgun with one .38 cartridge was handed over to the Duhaney Park Police by a citizen of that community yesterday.

The citizen reportedly found the firearm in his yard and alerted the police.

In a separate incident, Damion Roberts, 18, of Lincoln Avenue, Kingston 13, was charged under the Firearm's Act following the seizure of a 9mm sub-machine gun with six rounds at a dance in the community.
