Poor driving habits of Jamaicans
published: Friday | January 3, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I BEGAN visiting Jamaica in January of 1978; I was immediately struck by her beauty and wonderful people. However, early on, it dawned on me that Jamaica was horribly afflicted with poor driving habits throughout the island. It seemed as if reckless driving was some way at lashing back at factors that could not be controlled.

Your recent article on road carnage points out the escalating casualties that have followed. Pedestrians have to be respected and common sense and decency applied behind the wheel. Until defensive, mannerly driving is sought after, more and more innocent people will have to suffer. Please Jamaica; this is a carnage that can be stopped but only you can stop it.

I am etc.,
