Three on gun charges
published: Wednesday | November 27, 2002

THREE MEN were arrested for breaches of the Firearms Act in Kingston on Monday.

Those charged with shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition are Conrad Murray 21, of Higholbourn Street; Hayfield Burke, 20, of Foster Lane, both in Kingston and 18-year-old Andrew Baxter of Westchester, Portmore, St. Catherine.

The Constabulary Communication Network's Metro Officer reported that about 8:10 p.m., members of a police patrol who were on Marcus Garvey Drive, signalled a white Nissan Station wagon motor car with four men aboard to stop. Instead of stopping, the men reportedly opened fire at the police and the car sped away.

The police returned the fire and the vehicle was eventually intercepted on Port Royal Street. One man reportedly alighted from the vehicle and ran, making good his escape. Murray, Burke and Baxter were however apprehended. A search of the car, revealed a .380 semi-automatic pistol, serial number 571784 with eight rounds of ammunition.

The three men were subsequently arrested and charged.
