Alleged gunman killed, cop injured in shootout

A RUNNING gun battle between members of a police party and a 26-year-old man who was on the Central Kingston police's 'Most Wanted' ended with the gunman dead and a police constable shot and injured, along Gold Street, Monday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Jermaine Johnson, who the police say was wanted on several counts of murder. The policeman was shot in the left leg and toe. He was treated at hospital and released.

Reports are that members of a police party were on patrol in the Gold Street area of Southside, Central Kingston, when Johnson was observed running towards a premises and in the process opened fire at the lawmen.

Corporal Troy Anderson of the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), said the fire was return. A trail of blood led the lawmen two blocks away on Rosemary Lane, where the body of Johnson was found in a pool of blood and a Glock-40 pistol beside him.
