Bills too high
published: Wednesday | November 27, 2002

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WRITE with regard to the new landline rates of .40c a minute effective November 1, 2002.

C&W and the OUR need to sit and re-work the landline telephone rates with respect to those who do not have an ICAS code or any history of making international calls. In these days, surely software or programming can structure this to landline bills which show no history of overseas calls.

Why should I be paying in excess of 80 per cent more because international call charges have been lowered? I will not benefit from these new international rates as I do not make such calls.

I am sure that many share my view and would appreciate some answers as to why we should be paying for others to get that benefit when we already can't pay our existing telephone bills.

With the advent of the cellular phone, no one gives out landline numbers anymore and it is an addiction/sickness that teenagers and adults alike have to constantly call cellulars all day long and run up the phone bills.

I can't take any more bills and C&W says they have NO WAY of blocking these calls from being made from the landlines.

Everywhere else in the world sells the option of "Call Blocking" from landlines but not C&W Jamaica. That option I will gladly pay for!

I am, etc.,

C. STRAIT
