TWO MEMBERS of Kingston Cricket Club's Senior Cup team, skipper Lloyd Black and fast bowler Andrew Richardson, have been slapped with bans by the disciplinary committee of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) amounting to one year and three months, starting in the new 2003 season.Black, who led Kingston in the 2002 competitions has been the hardest hit, picking up one year while Richardson, a former West Indies Under-19 player was given a three-month suspension, with a suspended six-month sentence attached.
In their (JCA) letter sent to the president of the Jamaica Cricket Umpires Association, it was stated that: "Black has been exonerated on the charges of; 1. Use of indecent language and 2. Attempting physical assault upon an umpire.
"Black has been found guilty on the charges of; 4. Contravention of the WICB Code of Conduct, 7. Clear violation of the ICC Code of Conduct (Sept 2001); 8. Violation of the "Spirit of the Game" and bringing the game into disrepute".
"It is the decision of the board therefore that Black shall be suspended from all competitions under the aegis of the JCA for the 2003 season," the letter stated.
Meanwhile, Richardson, who represented the University of the West Indies in the recent Red Stripe Bowl cricket competition, was found guilty of both charges laid against him: 3. Unbecoming behaviour; and 4. Use of indecent language on the field of play.
"The board has decided that Richardson is hereby suspended from all organised cricket under the aegis of the JCA for three months. This penalty is, however, suspended for six months during which time if Richardson is found guilty of any charges laid against him, the suspension will come into effect".
The third person involved in the incident, which took place at Sabina Park in the semi-final of the Capital and Credit Merchant Bank limited overs cricket competition match on August 9 2002, Capt. Paul Brown of the Jamaica Defence Force was not formally charged.
