Rusea's, Garvey showdown

WESTERN BUREAU:

RUSEA'S COMPREHENSIVE and Marcus Garvey Technical will meet this afternoon at the ElletSon-Wakeland Community Centre in Falmouth in the featured game of the second round of matches in the Inter-Zone round of the Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup football competition.

Both schools were impressive in winning their first games in Group One played on Saturday, Rusea's hammering Mannings School 6-0 at Jarrett Park while Marcus Garvey beat defending champions Cornwall College 2-0 at Drax Hall.

Eleven of the 12 games scheduled in this set of matches will be played today as the William Knibb-Little London game set for Jarrett Park has been pushed back a day as it clashed with a National Premier League game between Seba United and Wadadah.

Today, five other schools will be seeking their second win and a leg up on the competition for a place in the quarter-finals. Grange Hill in Group Two, St. Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) in Group Three, Bellefield in Group Four, Titchfield in Group Five and Seaforth in Group Six.

The winners of the six inter-zone Groups and the best two second-placed teams advance to the quarter-finals.

The winner of today's game at Elleston-Wakeland is almost certain to advance. Rusea's looked in top form in their win over a disappointing Mannings team, making good use of their chances especially in the second half, when they scored four times in a 15-minute span.

Dwayne Jumpp looked particularly impressive with two good dribbles straight through the middle of the Mannings' defence which resulted in goals.

Marcus Garvey are tipped in some quarters to make an impression this season and their win over Cornwall on Saturday would have given them a fillip that they will carry into today's game.

Oliver Powell, who scored the second and decisive goal on Saturday, will be on the hunt for more glory today and the Rusea's defence and goalkeeper Jacomeno Barrett will have to keep an eye out for him.
