Are we putting our leaders out to pasture?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT IS so disgusting to see such pressure being placed on both Mr. Patterson or Mr. Seaga, to step down at a certain time. We seem to have forgotten the service that Mr. Seaga has given to Jamaica.

Mr. Reagan first became President of the US at age 69 and served two terms. We can learn so much from the older people, because they have knowledge and life experiences. I do not know when all this "old person" thing started, it is a darn shame that we have gotten to the stage to feel we should put senior citizens out to pasture because of their age.

Instead of focusing on Mr. Seaga, why don't we focus on both parties working together for a new Jamaica. A Jamaica where citizens will feel safe from crime, have jobs to feed our families, a Jamaica with improved quality of education for our young people and opportunities for everyone.

I am etc.,

S. FRANCIS
