Make 2003 a year of peace

THE EDITOR, Sir:

MR CARTER has done very good works around the world. The garrison politics he makes reference to might have something to do with the CIA actively destabilising Jamaica in the 1970s, which saw a massive influx of guns into the country.

If he wants to assist Jamaica, then he should also ask his country to stop the deportation of offenders who have no current link to the country. We have not got the resources to deal with these criminals.

However, the leaders of the two major parties have got a responsibility to the members of their parties and the people of Jamaica to say after 40 years of independence that 2003 should be declared as a Year of Peace for our country. This gun culture must be eradicated.

I am etc.,
