THE EDITOR, Sir:
OUR DAUGHTER was born at UHWI in February of 1997.
When she was 10 days old she became terribly ill and Dr. Srinivas at Kidz Klinik after examining her proceeded to make arrangements for her admittance to UHWI.
In our rush to get to the hospital we were pulled over by a policeman on a motorcycle by the stoplight of Old Hope Road and Mountain View Ave. My husband was so irate he could not speak so I explained to the officer our problem and without hesitation he turned on his flashing light and siren and escorted us to the hospital.
Five years later in August of 2002 a JUTC bus trying to negotiate the corner of Dunrobin Avenue and Constant Spring Road proceeded to plough into four cars waiting in line for the light to change. My daughter and I were in the first car to be hit and the vehicle was written off. Again, within minutes the police were on the scene assisting me through what was a horrible and terrifying experience. With the calm and charm of true professionals they proceeded to evaluate, report and advise all parties involved and it was so reassuring to have them there.
I have always regretted not publicly thanking the officer that assisted my daughter and me so many years ago but I now take the opportunity to say thanks to each and every member of the force and especially those that have assisted me when I most needed them. Rest assured that there are many like myself in Jamaica who appreciates the hard work that you do on our behalf.
I am etc.,
