Several entertainers to be honoured this Heroes Day

Barrett, Sibbles and Hammond

ON HEROES Day we celebrate the brave and influential lives that our national heroes lived. Though they have passed on, they have left indelible marks on the lives of every Jamaican.

This year marks the 40th Anniversary of Jamaica's Independence and on National Heroes Day, today, many more heroes who have and are still labouring, day in and day out, in their different fields of endeavour will be honoured.

The grounds of Jamaica House will be the stage on which the ceremony will be held in the honour of these seasoned professionals. It is where Governor-General, Sir Howard Cooke, will humbly bestow the honours upon the recipients.

Among those for appointment as Members of the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Officer for their services in the field of Music and Entertainment are Patrick George Anthony Barrett popularly known as Tony Rebel, Leroy Anthony Sibbles, Hugh Beresford (Beres) Hammond, and Lloyd Knibb.

In addition, Yolanda Veronica Mitchell will receive the Badge of Honour for her long and faithful contribution to the field of Music and Community Service.

The ceremony is open to the general public. All must be seated by 8:30 a.m. and the ceremony will get under way at 9 a.m.
