It's a girl for Carla

Carla Seaga, wife of Opposition Leader Edward Seaga, at 8:05 a.m. yesterday, gave birth to a seven-pound, 14-and-a-half-ounce baby girl, Gabrielle Vendryes, at Nuttall Memorial Hospital.

THE BABY was delivered by Caesarean section by a medical team led by Dr. Shaun Wynter, and included Drs. Vernon DaCosta, Stuart Murray, Priscilla Morais and Professor Hugh Wynter, for whom special praises were reserved.

An obviously elated Mrs. Seaga told The Gleaner she "thanked God for this wonderful opportunity to be a mom." The young Seaga was a picture of health, and all her vital signs are normal.

Speaking with The Gleaner, proud father Edward Seaga, who arrived at the hospital bearing three cameras, said he felt "wonderful to be a new father once more." He has three adult children - Annabelle, Christopher and Andrew - with former wife, Mitsy. Mr. Seaga, who accompanied his wife to the hospital early yesterday morning, said it was so long ago that he had become a father, the experience felt almost brand new.

Responding to whether the birth of his daughter would affect his busy campaign schedule, Mr. Seaga said his campaign programme had been laid out around the baby's birth. "... There will be no change now; I will have time to take care of my fatherly duties."
