THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM a 19-year-old who is registered to vote in the upcoming general election. I am a fourth generation voter from a family of traditional JLP supporters and would like to continue the family tradition.
I am writing this letter so that the leadership of the JLP can understand what is going on and use this information to improve.
I have a received a letter from Mr. Douglas, the Member of Parliament congratulating me for being enumerated and pointing out some of the things he has done since 1989. All of my friends who were enumerated got one of these letters with a telephone number which when you call he answers and speaks with you personally.
In recent times the PNP supporters have gone to the homes in the district twice with voters lists, marking and speaking with everyone and handing them Mr. Douglas' pamphlet of achievements with a picture of the Prime Minister and himself. Last week they were handing out pamphlets of the party's achievements.
Last Tuesday, some of my friends, both JLP and PNP were coming from Richmond and we saw a land rover vehicle from which flyers about the JLP candidate were thrown. My PNP friends laugh and make mockery of us saying that the JLP has no respect for us as they were throwing things for us to pick up instead of handing them to us.
I plead with the leadership of the JLP to treat people with more respect or I will have no choice but to vote for the PNP in the upcoming elections.
I am, etc.,
