WITH 160 DAYS gone out of the year, the murder tally up to yesterday stood at 400, according to the Constabulary Communication Network. The total number of murders recorded last year was 1,139.
The latest murder victim is 21-year-old Donovan Allison of Williamsfield, Manchester, who was stabbed at a dance in Land Settlement in the parish yesterday morning.
The Mandeville police say they are seeking Ian Douglas of Comfort district, Manchester, for questioning about Allison's death. The CCN reported that about 3.30 yesterday, Allison and Douglas were at the dance when they had a row. They started fighting and Allison was stabbed in the abdomen. He was taken to Mandeville Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Douglas later fled the scene.
The CCN reported also, the killing of two other persons on the weekend. They are Andre 'Norval' Brown, 25, of Freeman's Hall, Trelawny, and Clement Johnson, 49, of Refuge district in the same parish.
Regarding Brown's death, the Ulster Spring police are seeking a 17-year-old man from Freeman's Hall for questioning.
The police say that about 8.30 a.m. yesterday, Brown and the 17-year-old were at a river in a district when they quarrelled and fought and Brown was stabbed with a knife all over the body. He was taken to the Ulster Spring Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In Johnson's case, a couple have been charged with murdering him. They are Priscilla Wrenkers, 39, and Astley Walters, 44, both of Coopers Pen district, Trelawny.
The CCN reported that about midday on Saturday, Johnson went to the couple's home to collect money for work he had done on a house they are building. An altercation developed and Johnson was beaten. Villagers rescued him and took him to Falmouth Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
