New US security charge in Carib

MEMBERS OF the Caribbean Shipowners Association have announced a new security charge applicable to all cargo shipments between the Continental United States and Anguilla, Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Montserrat, Nevis, Saba, St. Barts, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent, Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Guyana and Suriname.

The rates, which became effective on March 31, 2002, are as follows:

$50 per 20-foot container

$100 per 40-foot container

$112 per 45-foot container

Effective April 14 this year, the charge for automobiles and lightweight trucks not exceeding 700cft is US $20, and US$50 per unit for rolling stock, heavy equipment/ machinery over 700cft.

The security charge applies in addition to all tariff and service contract rates. For further information, please contact your preferred carrier.
