TECMARINE LINES has introduced a new vessel to the Jamaican trade, with the MV Tecmarine Sprint having made its inaugural call to the Port of Kingston yesterday - its first sailing from Port Everglades in Florida.
The Tecmarine Sprint, with the capacity to accommodate 350 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), is the fastest and largest vessel in the history of Tecmarine's South Florida to Jamaica service.
"By introducing this vessel to the service, Tecmarine is demonstrating its complete dedication to the Jamaica trade," says Michael Archer, vice-president and commercial manager for Jamaica.
Tecmarine has been serving Jamaica since August 1994.
"Our presence in Jamaica has grown and it will continue to grow. We are proud of the success that we have had, and have reached a point where we must upgrade our tonnage to meet the level of service that we are guaranteeing the market," points out Mr. Archer.
The shipping line's service portfolio includes four sailings a week from the United States East Coast to Jamaica; two sailings a week from Jamaica to South Florida and the Northeast, and a guaranteed Monday morning pre-dawn arrival in Kingston.
"We are structuring our service to be the number one provider to and from the US East Coast for Jamaica," explains the vice-president and commercial manager.
It is expected that the M.V. Tecmarine Sprint will further enhance the Montego Bay service, which Tecmarine started last December.
"We opened service to Montego Bay. We are now installing the fastest vessel in the South Florida trade, and we have a third major upgrade for our Jamaica service that we will be announcing during the first week of April," Mr. Archer notes.
Tecmarine Lines operates container liner services in the US-Caribbean trade including Jamaica and Hispaniola. For further information on the company visit the website at www.tecmarine.com.
