Wrong use of NHT funds

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT WOULD seem to me that the National Housing Trust Act, 1979 clearly established the functions of the trust which include: a) to add to and improve the existing supply of housing, b) to enhance the usefulness of the funds of the trust by promoting greater efficiency in the housing sector.

The undertaking to develop recreational green space is desirable but in my opinion (a layman's) it is obviously a misinterpretation of the Act. I think the trust should desist from such projects and allow the appropriate Ministry to carry out the development of green space or spaces.

The use of the funds of the trust for other purposes than are authorised by the Act can be deemed misappropriation.

I am, etc.,
