JAMAICA CARNIVAL 2002 started in a blaze of glory at Chukka Cove, St. Ann's Bay, on Sunday when thousands of patrons jumped and danced to the sounds of the various acts.
The performers, which included T.C., Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, Colin Lucas, Krosfyah and Rupee, stirred, prodded, and titillated the thousands of revellers to dance until the weary end.
Byron Lee and the Dragonaires opened the night's proceedings, immediately getting down to business with The Road Is Mine which had the crowd moving in various directions as revellers followed the instructions of the lead singer. The group also performed a number of local reggae tunes, much to the delight of the audience, which danced wildly as Oscar B reeled off some of the current favourites.
When the group did Biting Insects the crowd 'wined' non-stop as Oscar B used his body to get the women to indicate where they had been bitten by mosquitoes.
T.C. also performed well as she became the voice of the women. She encouraged female patrons to keep their men by learning how to please them, and suggested that men give their women Victoria Secret undergarments and other items to keep the flame alive.
She then performed Kim, which had the women in the audience wining and screaming non-stop. Oscar B's response had the men shouting approval as he stated that women did not hear very well in bed.
The 'Dollar Wine man' Collin Lucas also turned up in fine form. He taught the audience the 'Jamaican Dollar Wine' and encouraged the men to place their huge deposits in the women's bank. At the same time he got the women to shriek in excitement as the men made their lodgements. His energetic performance left the audience breathless as some found it difficult to keep up with him.
The band Krosfyah, which also turned up to have fun, did not spare words in relation to sex. The group explained that it was the best thing to have been created and encouraged the audience to show their approval of good sex by raising their hands.
The group, with its popular soca tunes, also managed to pull the weary patrons, who had been partying all night, back to their feet.
Rupee also did well in parts, but the crowd
was obviously too tired to entertain him for a long period, as some members in the back waved their hands, asking him to leave when he asked them if they wanted more.
Other acts for the night included Blue Ventures and Roger George. MCs Jerry D, Paula Ann Porter and Norma Brown-Bell also added to what was an entertaining and exciting affair.
