JAMAICA DEFENCE FORCE took first innings points from Lucas on the opening day of their Rothmans Surrey Senior Cup cricket match at Nelson Oval yesterday.

Scores: JDF 155 and Lucas 142.

Meanwhile, Melbourne led by pacer Conroy Miller's match haul 10 wickets and Carlton Baugh Jnr's undefeated century crushed Tivoli by an innings and 158 runs in one day.

Sent in to take first strike, JDF got off the mark with the first delivery of the morning when Marlon Kennedy drove Naaman Bernard to pick up two runs. However, Kennedy later tried to work Dwayne Watson off his legs but found Wayne Gayle at bat-pad and was dismissed for six to leave the score at 20 for one.

Fellow opener Mel Wint was joined by Wayne Cuff but with the score on 35, Omar Burke struck a big blow. The left-arm spinner forced Cuff (six) to provide Gayle with his second catch.

That was 35 for two, and after that, Lucas picked up wickets at regular intervals. Only Wint with 38, Paul Brown 26 and Mark Grey (12) reached double figures.

Bowling for the home team, Bernard took 3-36, Delroy Morgan 2-7, Watson 2-22 and Burke 2-40.

At their turn at bat, Lucas were made to struggle against opening bowlers Warren Medwynter and Howard Copeland as they were reeling at 47 for five. Oniel Powell (eight), Ryan Smith (10), Maurice Clarke (five) and Andre Coley (eight) all went to the opening pacers.

However, in his first full over after tea, Medwynter was punished by Morgan. The former Jamaican batsman hit the pacer for three consecutive four, one backward of point, the next through covers and final one through mid-wicket.

Captain Brown immediately pulled both his fast bowlers and brought on Anthony Folkes and himself. Morgan never looked comfortable to the slow bowlers and in the end provided Mark Grey with a easy bat-pad catch. His knock included eight fours from 35 deliveries.

After batting for 133 minutes, Riley was finally out to a brilliant stumping by former Jamaica wicketkeeper Wint, down the leg side, he made 23 with three fours. Copeland 3-44, Medwynter 3-49 and Earnel Smith 2-6 were the best bowlers for JDF.

AT MELBOURNE OVAL: Pacer Conroy Miller took 10-24 to lead Melbourne to a crushing innings an 158-run victory over Tivoli. Scores: Tivoli 79 (Sheldon Simpson 14, Ralston Nelson 13; Miller 5-18; Roman Hutchinson 2-29) and 15 (Miller 5-6, Llewlleyn Meggs 2-0, Sheldon Smith 2-8). Melbourne 252 for four declared (Carlton Baugh Jnr 101 not out, Donovan Pagon 55, Aubrey Wollaston 30).

AT UP PARK CAMP: St. Thomas were in a good position to take first innings points from Boys' Town. Scores: Boys' Town 172 (Marlon Keating 43, Duran White 32, Courtney O'Connor 20; Bryan Murphy 5-53). St. Thomas 135 for five (Paul Palmer 59).

AT FOLLY OVAL: Portland were 55 for one in reply to 301 for six declared made by Kensington (David Bernard Jnr got 95, Laurie Williams 65).
