Hotels are also businesses

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON MARCH 18, 2002 you published a letter entitled "Why should we vacation in Jamaica?" In this letter Mr. Junior Chambers complained about the booking restrictions we have at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort in Montego Bay.

Mr. Chambers stated that he wanted to book two rooms starting on APRIL 31,2002. The correct date should have been March 31,2002. This is the Easter weekend when we do have a three night minimum stay based on the demand at that time.

The hotel, like any other business, has to try to maximise revenues when possible. This sometimes means establishing a minimum length of stay and it sometimes means lowering rates to increase volume. The law of demand and supply also applies to hotels.

I hope this clarifies the issues raised by Mr. Chambers in his letter and also hope that we will have the opportunity to show him our hospitality some time in the future.

I am etc.,
